Laura Siegemund Wins Mixed Doubles at French Open
Siegmund and Roger-Vasselin Claim Maiden Grand Slam Title
Siegemund's Path to Victory Began with a Text Message
PARIS (AP) - Laura Siegemund and Edouard Roger-Vasselin have triumphed in the French Open mixed doubles, adding to their impressive tennis careers.
Siegemund, who won the 2016 US Open mixed doubles title, and Roger-Vasselin, who was celebrating his maiden mixed doubles crown, defeated the French pair of Nicolas Mahut and Clara Burel in the final.
Siegemund's journey to the title was sparked by a text message she received just before the tournament began. The message, from tournament organizers, offered her a spot in the draw as an alternate pairing with Roger-Vasselin.
Despite the short notice, Siegemund and Roger-Vasselin quickly found their rhythm on the court, winning four matches to reach the final.
In the championship match, they displayed their dominance, defeating Mahut and Burel in straight sets. The victory marks a significant milestone in both players' careers, adding to Siegemund's previous Grand Slam win and giving Roger-Vasselin his first.
