Earthquakes Rattle Southern California

Dozens of tremors recorded in the past day, including a magnitude 5.2 event

A series of earthquakes have rocked Southern California in the past 24 hours, including a moderately strong 5.2-magnitude event that struck on Tuesday afternoon. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), more than 12 earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.5 or greater have been recorded in the region since Monday.

The largest earthquake, the magnitude 5.2 event, occurred at 4:42 p.m. PST on Tuesday and was centered about 11 miles (18 kilometers) north of Los Angeles. The quake was felt throughout the greater Los Angeles area, including in downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Pasadena.

There have been no reports of major damage or injuries as a result of the earthquakes. However, the USGS has warned that aftershocks are likely to continue for several days or even weeks.

The recent earthquake swarm is a reminder of the seismic activity that is common in Southern California. The region is located on the San Andreas Fault, one of the most active seismic faults in the world. Earthquakes are a regular occurrence in Southern California, and residents should be prepared for the possibility of strong shaking.
