A 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck Puerto Rico on Tuesday morning, causing damage to buildings and infrastructure in the southern part of the island, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake struck at 6:32 a.m. local time and was centered near the town of Guayanilla, about 10 miles west of Ponce. The USGS said the earthquake was shallow, with a depth of only 6.2 miles.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the earthquake caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure in the southern part of the island. The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority reported that more than 300,000 customers were without power after the quake.
The earthquake comes just two weeks after a stronger 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Puerto Rico, causing widespread damage and leaving thousands of people without power and water.
